Portfolio builder

Combine up to ten NZ retail managed funds, set how much goes to each, and see the blended annual fund charge, the weighted-average FMA risk indicator and the category mix.

What this tool does and does not do. It performs arithmetic on figures already published on this site and shows its working. It does not score a combination, does not say whether one is suitable for you, and does not suggest what to add or remove. Those are advice, and we are not a Financial Advice Provider.

Search above to add funds. Everything below is arithmetic on figures already published on this site — the tool does not assess, score or recommend anything.

Where these numbers come from

  • Annual fund charge — the FMA Disclose register figure held for each fund. Published for 283 of 304 funds. Funds without one are left out of the blended average rather than counted as zero, and the tool states how much of your allocation the average covers.
  • Risk indicator — the FMA's 1–7 scale as disclosed by each fund. Published for 287 funds. A weighted average of published indicators is not a risk assessment of a combination: diversification and correlation change portfolio risk in ways an average cannot capture.
  • Annual return vs index — each fund's after-fee return for each year against its own market index, from the FMA fund-update dataset. Held for 256 of 304 funds; funds without a series say so rather than showing an empty chart. Past performance is not a guide to future returns, and the builder does not project, extrapolate or combine returns into a portfolio figure — combining past returns implies a rebalancing history that did not happen.
  • Category mix — the category each fund is listed under on this site, weighted by allocation. It is not a look-through to underlying assets; each fund's own disclosed holdings are on its page.
