Compare like with like. A higher-risk fund (more shares) will usually post a higher long-run return than a lower-risk one (more bonds and cash), so ranking every fund together mixes risk levels. The per-category boards below compare funds that hold similar assets — that's the meaningful comparison. Past returns are not a guide to future returns.

Five-year return is the per-annum return after fund charges and tax, as published on Sorted Smart Investor, which draws from each fund's Quarterly Fund Update on the FMA Disclose register. The "vs category average" figure is the fund's 5-year return minus the peer-group average Sorted reports for that fund's category, in percentage points.

Funds with less than five years of history are not ranked. One-year, three-year and a year-by-year track-record sparkline are shown for funds whose latest Quarterly Fund Update has been ingested; see each fund's page and its source documents for the full record.
